Here is my first project of 2022, completed and it couldn’t have got off to a better start with this beautiful example of a Tawny Owl (strix aluco)
Unfortunately this beautiful owl succumbed to injuries after colliding with a window at night. A very sad situation, but I am so glad I got the opportunity to preserve her beauty, and what a beauty she is!
I find owls very charismatic creatures, full of expression. They seem to have such a strong status in lore and culture and are generally considered as a very much loved species of the animal kingdom by many! I think it’s because of their forward facing, heart shaped faces – similar to our own, so we have that instant, familiar connection with them.
Meticulous work on the eyes is my favourite part of working on the owl, as it’s the expression that really does bring them back to life, so to speak. I can spend hours on this process alone, but it’s so worth it when you see those beautiful, dark eyes staring back in to your soul.
I’ll have a ‘behind the scenes’ video uploaded very shortly! If you are interested, please check back soon.
