This unique and exquisite piece of fine taxidermy art, is for a pair of beautiful Emerald Starlings (Lamprotornis iris)– (Also known as the Iris Glossy Starling), one adult boasting a real emerald being ‘fed’ to a juvenile of the species. 3 raw emeralds can also be seen on the base of the dome.
It is an artistic representation of the quote that is engraved on the plaque, which reads:
“A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials”
This one off piece is inspired by a tradition that started that began in France in the 1800’s, known as Globe de Mariée or ‘marriage domes’ in England. These ornately decorated domes were used as a display for newly married couples, to preserve their wedding souvenirs and served as an object of beauty that holds many happy memories of their wedding and life together.
This contemporary rendition of a marriage dome boasts all of the opulent, handmade embellishments of the antique counterparts, with handcrafted brass ivy leaves, baroque style floral archway and miniature upholstered cushion.
The dome itself is embellished with a gold trim and has the ‘Taxidermy Co.” logo engraved in a prominent position which can be seen through the floral arch.
