This unique, cased taxidermy listing is a homage to the late, great Beatrix Potter. A childhood favourite of mine, her whimsical countryside tales have certainly left a lasting impression on my imagination.
My favourite tale was ‘The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin’ whom which I have based this piece upon, including the iconic pose of the mischievous red squirrel, Mr. Brown of Owl Island in the hand painted background.
Although the island’s name is fictitious, it is based upon St. Herbert’s Island in the beautiful setting of the Lake District. If you look carefully, you may also notice the wrapped up beetles in leaves, fastened with a pine needle, mentioned in the story!
This may be a little different to my usual work, but having time to do my own projects means I have been immersed in the world of whimsy recently – a world I feel very comfortable in!
